I'm still drawing!

Please check out my tumblr and website for updates. I'm much more active on those sites than my blogspot!

So I quit my job...

At the beginning of this year, I was honored to be featured in Jules Danielson's blog 7 Important Things Before Breakfast, which resulted in me getting contacted by the lovely Emily Mitchell, an agent representing Wernick & Pratt Agency. She soon after became my children's book agent!

While all this was going on, I made the difficult and exciting decision to leave my job as industrial designer at Intel and start my own design and illustration consulting business called Subi Works LLC. It has been a month since I've been out on my own and I am still getting in the swing of things and accruing clientele. I am drawing daily, which makes me incredibly happy!!

I cannot share what's going on on the design side of my business quite yet, but please check my tumblr for updates on artwork (I'm still trying to figure out the difference between tumblr and blogspot...) and my ever-evolving website that has some new work up!

It's a good year to follow your dreams!

Call of the Wild

Fun project! Prompt given by my teacher Ryan Alexander-Tanner at PNCA. The assignment called for three spot illustrations with a mystical creature and child, each having to do with reading.

Sketches from the MAX

I started commuting on the light rail to work. Here are some people I watched.
(I found that people on their smart phones were the most still... like statues O_O)

Monster Blog

My coworker Mauricio Romano started a Monster Blog (MOB) and have been posting pretty regularly. It's a lot of fun to draw them, but also to tell their story.

Check it out here!

Mom of Tiger

Once Tiger Mom came out with her book about raising children, my mom always felt like she wasn't hard enough on us to be a tiger mom. As thankful as my brother and I were, she seemed disappointed that she didn't do silly harsh things to us to discipline us. So to thank her on her 62nd birthday, I wanted to show that she may not be a tiger mom, but she is a mom of tiger (that's me!).

Dora the Explorer in Taiwan

I've been MIA for a little while--busy with work, SCBWI conference, a trip to Boston for a reunion with 4 awesome girls, a business trip to Taipei, and a visit to Tainan.

Above is a photo I took in a fruit market on the way to Sanzhi to visit my grandma. My uncle likes to buy copious amounts of fruit to bring to her. The air smelled sweet and sticky, and since it was mango season, my mouth was watering. :) The little girl was pacing around the market in her helmet. I really like her Dora the Explorer socks. I suspect she was impatient to go on exploring.

Good Dog

Here is some artwork I did for homework from a manuscript called How To Be A Good Dog.
The story is about Bobo the dog, who learns how to be a good dog from his teacher Cat. (He gets it in the end ;) ).
I'm not sure if the text is clear, and would love to get feedback. Also, might homogenize the pink back-splotches and make them into squircles.

I've been obsessed with drawing dragons lately. Here's one of them!

Stuffed Animal Forts

When I was little, my big brother Dan and I would make forts out of all my stuffed animals.
We put pipes in between the cracks so we could keep an eye out for intruders, and donned Transformers armor, in case a monster were to attack.

This is what I imagine the image would look like in a spread...

Bike Route in Taipei

I was never much into biking until I lived in Taipei 2 years ago (2 years ago?!). I made an awesome friend, Elim, who convinced me to ride with her to work, and conveniently lived right off the Danshui river, which has an amazing bike route. There was nothing stopping me! Here are some photos from my solo trips.

To the Zoo!

I live on a huge mountainous hill. Up-up-up the hill lies the zoo.
My friend Ryan and I ran there once.

*update*
Here's a more finished one...

Leo

Half-a-year ago, Leo the cat moved in temporarily and ended up squatting at our home indefinitely. He became quite talkative, but proved to be lazy and stubborn. "No"-this and "Why"-that was all he could say to us. So, whenever my dear roommate came home, she'd call for Leo, to which he'd stay put and bitch and moan "nooo.. nooo.. whyyyy."
